i got tired of people pulling shit out of their asses. it's fine to over-analyze other people's art because that's technically what art is supposed to do. it's supposed to make you think while you observe. what really bugs me is when the artist over-analyzes their own work...ESPECIALLY when it's quite obvious they have no idea what they're talking about. at least i'm honest. most of the time i have no idea what the hell is coming out of my head, and if i do, it's always something simple.
dunno. maybe i'm too critical. but it does annoy me.
i had no idea what to categorize this in, by the by.
I totally hear you. This is why I'm not going to art school yet. The harsh lines that make up that explosion do not represent poverty and resentment in the modern world, they are oil pastels and they mean "This is blowing up, kthnx."
I fail at art class because of this mindset (*which I seem to share with you). I just make art with little/no thought put into it, and its meaning is simple and entirely non-political.
I wish more people had the brass to say what they mean, nothing more, nothing less.
oil pastels always mean "This is blowing up, kthnx." XD
i find it okay if the artist had an idea in mind when they were making it. like they thought "oh....this image could be used this way to express this." then it's okay. but most of the time, people just start sputtering out junk to impress people, and i'm just like "whoa, fucker, you're really just looking like a jackass." it was frustrating. it's little wonder why most people think the art community is pretentious.

This made me grin. Sheer accuracy on every critrique made XD And thanks to my simple-mindedness, "Beat the bullshit" is the best way to describe it. Whee.
