i was walking around down the street of the town i live in and there was a hippie shop. i like hippie shops because they generally sell pretty neat stuff. so i go in and look and stuff and ask if they have any job openings. they didn't, but while i was at the counter, i noticed a back door that was open and that there were people in there. i asked about it and the girl told me it was a club for pagans in the area. i went and sat on the couch in there and watched them for a while. it was kinda cool. i drew an old guy with a cane who was there and a few cats.
they had this altar in the corner that was covered in all sorts of stuff and they pulled out a risk game that was based on pagan gods. they were definitely cool people. they told me they usually gathered on the weekends and invited me back. i haven't gone back yet, but i've thought about it, though i'm more interested in just watching as an agnostic than as a participant.
the point of life drawing is to learn from reality. if i wanted to put on shadows, then i would HAVE to take them from observation so i could get them right. if i put them on myself, then i'd add some that don't exist and forget to add some and it wouldn't be an observational drawing anymore. but i'm not quick enough to do that yet. so i don't even try.
but...thanks? ^_^

Stuff like this is priceless. If you can sit in that meeting every week and draw the characters you see, then you should definitely do it! You see hoards of perfect pretty mannequins in peoples work but not so much real characters full of imperfection and charm.
It's a shame it's come out so faded, but I can see what you were doing. Try to fill a page with the same person as they move, don't get them to rigidly pose, draw what you can, catch different expressions from different angles.
Again, it's like seeing a whole different artist here. Use a big dark pencil like a 6B and make bold lines, it'll make you more confident and also show up on scanners better! Or, use a blue pencil to sketch with and then go over the 'good' lines with a dark 6B or similar. Blue pencil doesn't show up on scans so you'll just be left with the trace.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.

The drawing's good. It lacks shadows and all but it's a good lineart. With more shadows and stuff this would be really good. And a cat!
